Staying Peaceful :-)

peace flower

In the last few weeks, I have looked on helplessly as the situation in Gaza has got worse and worse with the number of deaths and injuries mounting and no sign of anything abating for a while. Whilst I was pondering what to write about bringing more peace in our lives, a friend send me the following words as “thought for the day”, which seemed appropriate:-

“Desires cause peace to disappear. You think that acquiring things will make you feel secure, but the reality is that the more you have the more fear there usually is of losing it, and the further you are from peace. Desires are the cause of all conflicts. When you want something and cannot get it you become frustrated. Learning to be free from desires is learning how to stay peaceful.”

The truth that desire is the root cause of all human miseries is known since ages, but miseries, greed, conflict, and war do continue. People in different age-groups emphasize different and often contradictory values. Educating the children from their tender age through their mid-30s may work wonders as the teenage is the most reactive period in a man’s life.
